Springfield, Ill. | January 6 2026 | Service Delivery C4 R3 Reentry ( CSFA #546-00-2378) | The Restore, Reinvest and Renew (R3) Program was established by the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act to make a significant portion of cannabis revenues available to communities that have been most impacted by the inequities created and perpetuated by harmful policies established during the war on drugs era. In SFY25, ICJIA was awarded a state appropriation of $50 million to administer the R3 program. A total of $35 million of this appropriation is available to eligible community organizations providing services in the areas of economic development, reentry, and civil legal aid.

Springfield, Ill. | January 26 2026 | Governor Pritzker Awards More Than $17 Million Through the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program | Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today awarded more than $17 million in funding to 39 program recipients, serving up to nearly 2,000 community members statewide, to expand the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program. The program creates a qualified talent pipeline of diverse candidates in the construction and building trades…The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program launched in 2021 with the goal of increasing diversity and access to apprenticeship programs. Comprehensive pre-apprenticeship programs help participants gain admission to apprenticeship programs, which provide a greater opportunity to obtain employment in the construction trades and secure a lifelong career.
Springfield, Ill. | January 26 2026 | Providers say feds’ new rural health care grants to Illinois won’t cover Medicaid cuts | Illinois will receive $193 million for each of the next five years to expand health care access for the approximately 1.9 million people in rural areas — or about $101 annually for every rural Illinoisan. The money comes from the $50 billion federal Rural Healthcare Transformation Program fund, which Congress created to offset federal Medicaid spending cuts included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, or H.R. 1, that passed last summer.But health care organizations said the money will not be enough to compensate for Medicaid cuts…H.R. 1 also imposes a tighter cap on how much money states can raise for their Medicaid programs through provider taxes. The new limits will be phased in, starting in fiscal year 2028, and could reduce total Medicaid funding in Illinois by $4.5 billion a year by fiscal year 2031.
Springfield, Ill. | January 22 2023 | Healing Illinois Announces 2026 Subgrantees | On the heels of the 10th anniversary of the National Day of Racial Healing, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) announced $4.3 million in grant funding for nearly 200 Healing Illinois subgrantees to foster racial and community healing statewide. This initiative, managed in partnership with the Field Foundation, will focus on resilience and highlight stories of how communities overcome challenges and bridge divides. Since its launch in 2021, Healing Illinois has funded community-driven healing initiatives across Illinois with nonprofits developing community programming and creating infrastructure for long-term healing. Springfield, Ill. | January 14 2026 | Pritzker Administration awards $36 million in grants for local park projects | Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced $36 million in grant funding was awarded to 67 local park projects throughout Illinois to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities. The grants were awarded through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development, or OSLAD, program. For the fourth year in a row, the governor ensured funding was set aside for economically distressed communities, resulting in 20 underserved communities receiving $11.4 million in OSLAD grants this year.
Springfield, Ill. | January 12 2026 | Funkytown Brewery lands Chicago grant for facility planned near United Center | A Chicago brewery has landed a $3.7 million grant from the city, taking a big step closer to its vision of opening a facility near the United Center arena. Funkytown Brewery recently was awarded the funds as part of the city planning department’s Community Development Grant program, according to the Black-owned brewery and an announcement by Mayor Brandon Johnson. The grant will cover about half the cost of a long-planned project to buy a vacant building at 1931 W. Lake St. and convert it to the company’s first standalone brewing, distribution and retail facility.
Springfield, Ill. | January 9 2026 | Durbin, Duckworth, Casten Announce $4 Million In Federal Funding For College Of DuPage | U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representative Sean Casten (D-IL-06) today announced $4,000,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Education for College of DuPage. This grant comes from the Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education Special Projects, which provides grants to institutions of higher education to support innovative projects concerning one or more areas of national need identified by the Secretary of Education. College of DuPage will use the $4 million federal grant to develop and expand short-term, for-credit aviation and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) workforce certificates. Over the next four years, College of DuPage will launch new employer-validated programs and enhance program resources and technology. These efforts are designed to significantly increase the College’s aviation workforce output, increase certificate and degree completion, and create a scalable model for preparing students – including adult leaders, veterans, and dual credit high school students – for high-skilled, high-wage careers in aviation and UAS.
