Washington, D.C. | May 28 2026 | FY 26 Postsecondary Student Success Grant 84.116M (ED-GRANT-26-038) | The purpose of PSSG is to improve postsecondary student outcomes, including retention, transfer, credit accumulation, and completion, by leveraging data and implementing, scaling, and rigorously evaluating evidence-based strategies. PSSG provides funding for the implementation and rigorous evaluation of evidence-based strategies that result in improved student outcomes. The program has two absolute priorities that correspond to varying evidence standards. This multi-tiered competition invites applicants that are in the “early phase” or “mid phase” of their evidence-based work to support students through credential attainment. Grant funding supports the evaluation, dissemination, scaling, and sustainability efforts of the activities funded under this grant. An early phase applicant must propose a strategy that at least meets the Demonstrates a Rationale standard and have a plan to complete a project evaluation that meets What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) standards with or without reservations. A mid phase applicant must propose a strategy that at least meets the Moderate Evidence of effectiveness standard, include a plan to scale this strategy to multiple sites and/or to a large number of students, and complete an evaluation that meets WWC standards without reservations. Springfield, Ill. | May 19 2026 | Rural Health Transformation Program – Transforming Rural Healthcare Delivery, Healthcare Transformation Collaboratives (CSFA #478-00-3950) | The Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program was designed to empower states to strengthen rural communities by improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes through transforming the healthcare delivery ecosystem. Illinois’ Rural Health Transformation Program will support rural communities across the State of Illinois in improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes by transforming healthcare delivery. Springfield, Ill. | May 19 2026 | Rural Health Transformation Program – Transforming Rural Healthcare Delivery, Hospital Transformation (478-00-3979) | This grant program utilizes federal CMS Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program funds. Total amount of funding expected to be awarded through this NOFO is up to $28,191,393.00, subject to continued funding and program approval. Funding in future years is subject to CMS’s continuation, review, and award of future Rural Health Transformation funding. The release of this NOFO does not obligate the Department to make an award. The total amount of funding $28,191,393.00 will be allocated equally among eligible hospitals. Washington, D.C. | May 15 2026 | EDU Core Research (21-588) | The EDU Core Research (ECR) program offers this ECR:Core solicitation and invites proposals for fundamental research (curiosity-driven basic research and use-inspired basic research) that contributes to the general, explanatory knowledge that underlies STEM education in one or more of the three broadly conceived Research Areas: Research on STEM Learning and Learning Environments, Research on Broadening Participation in STEM fields, and Research on STEM Workforce Development. Within this framework, the ECR program supports a wide range of fundamental STEM education research activities, aimed at learners of all groups and ages in formal and informal settings. Fundamental research generates knowledge and understanding with the potential for broad relevance. The potential implications of ECR fundamental research for improving STEM education practice may be indirect and long-term rather than direct and immediate. Moreover, whether they include basic or use-inspired basic research, all successful ECR:Core proposals focus on the advancement or refinement of foundational knowledge for STEM education. The amount of funding and duration requested in proposals submitted to the ECR:Core solicitation should align with the maturity of the proposed work and the size and scope of the empirical effort. The goal of this NOFO is to enhance lawful decision-making and help improve its accuracy and effectiveness through AI applications supporting crime prevention, public safety, and criminal justice systems. Research should explore both the benefits and limitations of AI, addressing potential risks and downstream impacts. Springfield, Ill. | May 23 2026 | Illinois puts $2.6M into truck driver training to cut waitlists | Illinois is investing $2.6 million to expand Lincoln Land Community College’s truck driver training program, creating a new training site in Litchfield aimed at easing a backlog of students and addressing a growing shortage of commercial drivers, according to a community announcement. Gov. JB Pritzker joined officials from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Lincoln Land Community College on May 20 to announce the state-funded expansion, which will support infrastructure design and construction for the new site. State officials said the investment is intended to boost workforce development, support local economic growth and expand access to stable, in‑demand careers across central Illinois.
Washington, D.C. | May 20 2026 | EPA Announces $295.5 Million to Reduce Lead in Drinking Water in Illinois | Today, EPA is announcing $295,551,000 in funding to protect Illinois from exposure to lead in drinking water. This investment will go directly to states through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and is part of EPA’s unwavering commitment to Making America Healthy Again. This funding will go toward finding and replacing lead pipes (also known as lead service lines) that deliver water to homes. Communities can use these funds for identifying lead pipes, planning removal projects, and funding replacement of these lead service lines. Lead is a powerful neurotoxin that is especially harmful to children. Each lead pipe removed and replaced delivers real, tangible human health benefits in communities across our great nation.
Chicago, Ill. | May 18 2026 | $1.7 million grant from Lollapalooza to expand CPS arts education access | A new grant tied to Lollapalooza will give arts programming in Chicago Public Schools a boost, the district and festival announced. The $1.7 million grant, revealed Sunday, is set to expand “arts education opportunities for the city’s young artists,” and marks one of the largest gifts the district has received, according to a news release. Lollapalooza’s support of CPS arts programming totals $3.9 million since 2021. The financial investments are expected to impact over 40,000 students in more than 150 CPS schools and over 40 city wards in the next half decade, the release states, and increase access to arts education overall across the district.
Chicago, Ill. | South Side visual arts organizations awarded part of $1.8 million grant from Getty Foundation | Two South Side-based visual arts organizations will receive part of a $1.8 million grant from the Los Angeles-based Getty Foundation to support Black visual arts archives, the foundation announced Wednesday. The South Side Community Art Center will receive $250,000, and the University of Chicago’s South Side Home Movie Project will receive $170,000. The two organizations, out of eight total recipients, have been recognized for their work preserving the history of Black art in the U.S.
Springfield, Ill. | Pritzker urges feds to release $1B in broadband funds to Illinois | Gov. JB Pritzker sent a letter to U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Tuesday, urging him to approve Illinois’ proposal for federal broadband infrastructure funds. The $1 billion proposal would connect roughly 383,000 people, mostly in rural areas, to high-speed internet. However, Illinois and California lag months behind other states in the approval process — leading to speculation that the funds have been withheld from the two blue states for political punishment or leverage. Those funds were previously allocated to states in 2023 under the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment, or BEAD, program established by the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, passed by Congress in 2021.
Springfield, Ill. | May 11 2026 | Illinois Awarding $2.5 Million in New Grants for Underserved Entrepreneurs | Illinois has approved more than $2 million in new grant funding to help underserved entrepreneurs and small businesses across Illinois. Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced that $2.5 million in new funding is now available through the second round of the Economic Empowerment Centers (EEC) Grant Program. The EEC is a statewide effort aimed at helping underserved entrepreneurs and communities overcome long-standing economic barriers. The grant funding will be distributed through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity process, with eligible applicants able to seek awards ranging from $250,000 to $500,000.

Pritzker announces Safe Routes to School awards | Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi announced on Friday, May 8, that $12 million in grants had been awarded for projects that will help boost the health and safety of children by making walking, biking, and rolling to school safer and more accessible, boosting quality of life throughout the state. The popular Safe Routes to School program is funding 68 proposals by local governments and schools that range from improving neighborhood infrastructure to supporting community educational and safety programs.
Springfield, Ill. | May 6 2026 | Governor Pritzker Announces $56 Million in Available Grant Funding for Community Development Block Grant Programs | Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced $56 million in funding is available for the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) for Public Infrastructure ($25 million), Housing Rehabilitation ($15 million), Community Revitalization ($13 million), and Emergency Assistance ($3 million). Grantees will be selected through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) process. Eligible applicants can apply for Public Infrastructure grants from $300,000 to $1.5 million, Housing Rehabilitation grants from $300,000 to $800,000, and Community Revitalization grants from $250,000 to $2 million. Applications for both Public Infrastructure and Housing Rehabilitation grants will be accepted until August 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Applications for Community Revitalization funding will be accepted on a rolling basis once the Notice of Funding Opportunity is posted. Springfield, Ill. | May 6 2026 | Illinois awards nearly $5M to prep McHenry County sites for growth | The City of Marengo received a $4.6 million grant to extend water and sewer infrastructure, while the City of McHenry received $120,000 for environmental assessments. The funding comes from the Illinois Regional Site Readiness Program, which aims to make industrial sites “shovel ready” for business development, according to a community announcement. The program, issued by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, awarded a total of $25.9 million to eight sites across the state. Marengo’s grant will be used to extend water and sewer infrastructure to the interchange at Interstate 90 and Illinois 23. This is the final phase of the Route 23 Utility Extension Project.
