Washington, D.C. | November 20 2023 | FY23-FY24 Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation (ATTAIN) Program (693JJ324NF00005) | The FHWA hereby requests applications to result in awards to eligible entities to deploy, install, and operate advanced transportation technologies to improve safety, mobility, efficiency, system performance, intermodal connectivity, and infrastructure return on investment. These model deployments are expected to provide benefits in the form of:

  • reduced traffic-related fatalities and injuries;
  • reduced traffic congestion and improved travel time reliability;
  • reduced transportation-related emissions;
  • optimized multimodal system performance;
  • improved access to transportation alternatives, including for underserved populations;
  • improved integration of payment systems;

Springfield, Ill. | November 30 2023 | Governor Pritzker Announces $13 Million Investment in Job Training and Economic Development Program | Today, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced an additional $13 million investment in the Job Training and Economic Development Program (JTED) for workforce training and wrap-around services that will bolster equitable workforce recovery for Illinoisans struggling to gain meaningful employment. As part of Illinois’ workforce recovery efforts, JTED grants focus on helping increase employment among workers and industries hardest hit by COVID-19. Washington, D.C. | November 30 2023 | Biotechnology Risk Assessment Research Grants Program (USDA-NIFA-BRAP-010309) | The purpose of the Biotechnology Risk Assessment Research Grants Program (BRAG) program is to support the generation of new information that will assist Federal regulatory agencies in making science-based decisions about the effects of introducing into the environment genetically engineered organisms (GE), including plants, microorganisms — such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses — arthropods, fish, birds, mammals and other animals excluding humans. Investigations of effects on both managed and natural environments are relevant. Washington, D.C. | November 30 2023 | FY 2024 National Infrastructure Investments (DTOS59-24-RA-RAISE) | The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (“Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” or “BIL” ) authorized and appropriated $1.5 billion to be awarded by the Department of Transportation (“DOT”) for Local and Regional Project Assistance Program Grants under National Infrastructure Investments. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) solicits applications for projects funded under the Local and Regional Project Assistance Program, known as the RAISE Grants program. If the FY 2024 Appropriations Act provides additional funding for the RAISE grants program and/or significantly different requirements for National Infrastructure Investment funds, the Department will amend this Notice with guidance on additional requirements. Springfield, Ill. | November 21 2023 | Governor Pritzker announces $25.5 million for CEJA Equitable Energy Future Grants | Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity launched $25.5 million in funding for the Equitable Energy Future Grants Program. The program supports renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in low-income and historically disadvantaged communities. Washington, D.C. | November 21 2023 | Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (EPA-R-OEJECR-OCS-23-04) | The Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant program (Community Change Grants), created by the Inflation Reduction Act, offers an unprecedented $2 billion in grants under this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The Community Change Grants will fund community-driven projects that address climate challenges and reduce pollution while strengthening communities through thoughtful implementation. This historic level of support will enable communities and their partners to overcome longstanding environmental challenges and implement meaningful solutions to meet community needs now and for generations to come. Washington, D.C. | November 8 2023 | The Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI) Grants (FR-6700-N-96) | Through this NOFO, HUD is awarding Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI) grants to support selected communities develop and implement systems infrastructure to better address youth homelessness. The grants will focus on systems change to create and build capacity for Youth Action Boards; collect and use data that work with at-risk youth; develop strong leaders within a community; and improve the coordination, communication, operation, and administration of homeless assistance projects to better serve youth, including prevention and diversion strategies. The goal of the YHSI is to increase the capacity of communities to better serve youth and create projects that are responsive to the needs of youth at-risk of or experiencing homelessness in the community. Washington, D.C. | November 8 2023 | Spurring Projects to Advance Energy Research and Knowledge Swiftly (SPARKS) (DE-FOA-0003164) | This announcement is purposely broad in scope to encourage the submission of the most innovative ideas in energy technology to support transformative energy R&D that complements ARPA-E’s primary mechanism, which is through the solicitation of research projects in focused technology programs.ARPA-E’s focused programs target specific areas of technology that the agency has identified through extensive interaction with the appropriate external stakeholders. Chicago, Ill. | Nov. 29 2023 | Violence intervention group co-founded by Arne Duncan gets $21 million | A new, multimillion-dollar grant from late Chicago businesswoman Sue Ling Gin will help expand services combating gun violence. This week the Sue Ling Gin Foundation awarded $21 million to Chicago CRED, a community violence intervention program co-founded by former U.S. Education Secretary and CEO of Chicago Public Schools Arne Duncan. Gin founded her airline catering business, Flying Food Group, at Midway International Airport and became a prominent real estate investor near the airport and in the West Loop. Gin was also a major philanthropist and served as a member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Economic Club of Chicago. She died at 73 in 2014 after suffering a stroke.

Springfield, Ill. | November 30 2023 | South Suburban College to get $13 million grant for nursing education center; expects to break ground next year | Officials at South Suburban College in South Holland announced Thursday a state grant of $13 million to aid in construction of a planned Allied Health and Nursing Center. The money, from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, comes on top of about $51 million previously approved by state legislators for the project, which is expected to break ground next summer. The building will house classrooms and labs for the school’s programs in areas such as nursing, pharmacy and occupational therapy and will “benefit generations to come,” said Terry Wells, chairman of the college’s board.

Washington, D.C. | November 20 2023 | Illinois awarded $4.5 million federal grant to improve safety, efficiency on projects | The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today it has received a $4.5 million Federal Highway Administration grant to develop a new digital system that will improve efficiencies and safety as well as modernize administration of future construction projects. The grant is one of 10 awarded to 35 states that applied.

Washington, D.C. | November 18 2023 | Illinois Rural Cooperatives Receive More Than $4 Million In Grants And Loans From USDA Rural Development | U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Illinois State Director Betsy Dirksen Londrigan today announced that USDA is investing more than $4 million in loans and grants to spur economic development, catalyze rural prosperity and advance equity through rural cooperatives Illinois. Last month, USDA celebrated its 59th annual National Cooperative Month and the vital role cooperatives play in helping people build bright futures in rural America.

Springfield, Ill. | November 3 2023 | Gov. Pritzker, IDPH Announce $3.5M to Boost Mental Health Services for Youth Across Illinois | Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today that the State of Illinois has awarded $3.5 million in funding to 19 different applicants across the state to support post-pandemic child and adolescent health. The size of the grants ranges from $92,000 to $200,000. The new round of grants follows $9.5 million in grants that were primarily federally funded to 40 organizations around the state announced last week.

Washington, D.C. | November 2 2023 | Bost Announces Rural Development Grants For Southern Illinois | U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12) announced today that 10 Southern Illinois counties will receive a combined $1.2 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to fortify rural energy. Bost authored a letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture in support of robust funding for rural energy programs, helping secure more than double the funding from the previous year for the REAP program. This increase will continue to help small businesses and agricultural producers in rural areas invest in renewable energy and efficiency improvements for their operations.
