Washington, D.C. | June 4 2025 | EDA FY25 Disaster Supplemental (EDA-DISASTER-2025) | Through this Disaster NOFO, EDA will award investments in regions experiencing severe economic distress or other economic harm resulting from hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, floods, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2023 and 2024. EDA’s goal under this NOFO is to assist communities recovering from a disaster by realizing opportunities to recover and change the economic trajectory of the community for the better. In other words, EDA funding seeks to help communities recover and set them on a path to exceed their previous pre-disaster baseline. EDA seeks projects that are responsive to community needs post-disaster by engaging all aspects of the community, with special focus on private industry partners.
This Disaster NOFO provides funding through three pathways:
- Readiness Path – Standalone non-construction projects designed to increase a community’s readiness to apply for or implement disaster recovery funding from private and public sources including, but not limited to, future EDA NOFOs and the Implementation or Industry Transformation Paths under this NOFO. Projects will fund strategy development, capacity building, and/or predevelopment costs necessary for future recovery projects.
- Implementation Path – Standalone construction or non-construction projects designed to address the economic challenges faced by a community recovering from a natural disaster and improve economic trajectories beyond pre-disaster economic conditions.
- Industry Transformation Path – Led by a coalition of regional stakeholders, a portfolio of large-scale, multicomponent construction and non-construction projects designed to fundamentally transform the economic trajectory of a region through the development or acceleration of an industry.

Washington, D.C. | June 26 2025 | Addressing the Housing Affordability Crisis Research Grant Program (FR-6900-N-29R) | HUD/PD&R”s funding opportunity titled Addressing the Housing Affordability Crisis Research Grant Program will provide competitive awards to: (1) fund quality research that contributes to knowledge about the housing affordability crisis in the United States; and (2) generate actionable insights and evidence that can inform policy decisions to address the housing affordability crisis in the short-term. Through this funding opportunity, PD&R will fund research projects that contribute to one of the five eligible research categories, including: 1) Government-induced Demand and Housing Affordability, 2) Immigration and Housing Affordability, 3) The Financialization of Housing and Housing Affordability, 4) Economic Opportunity Cost and Housing Affordability, and 5) Opportunity Zones identified in Section III.G. Eligible applicants for this funding opportunity include institutions of higher education, nonprofit, and for-profit institutions. Washington, D.C. | June 18 2025 | OVW Fiscal Year 2025 Grants to Enhance Community-based Services for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program (O-OVW-2025-172373) | The Grants to Enhance Community-based Services for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program (CSSP) supports (1) the maintenance and replication of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking services in community-based programs that offer culturally specific services and other resources; and (2) the development of innovative community-based programming that improves access to services and resources for victims who face obstacles to using traditional services. Chicago, Ill. | June 16 2025 | Mayor Johnson Announces $4.11M Investment into Community Wealth-Building | The Department of Planning and Development is allocating grants of up to $500,000 for Community Investment Vehicles and Worker Cooperatives in an effort to increase wealth in low and moderate-income neighborhoods. Washington, D.C. | June 16 2025 | NIH Directors Transformative Research Awards (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) (RFA-RM-25-003) | The NIH Directors Transformative Research Award Program supports individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing bold, groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish entirely new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. Washington, D.C. | June 1 2025 | Legal Services for Homeless Veterans and Veterans At-Risk for Homelessness (LSV-H) Grant Program (VA-VJP-LSV-H-2026) | Ending and preventing homelessness among Veterans is a priority for VA. VA’s Homeless Programs constitute the Nation’s largest integrated network of homeless treatment and assistance services for Veterans. The LSV-H Grant Program’s purpose is to award legal services grants to eligible public or non-profit private entities who will provide legal services to eligible Veterans who are homeless or at risk for homelessness. Springfield, Ill. | June 27 2025 | Governor Pritzker Highlights Major Workforce Investment at SWIC Belleville | Illinois Governor JB Pritzker visited Southwest Illinois College’s Belleville Advanced Manufacturing Academy to announce a new investment in workforce development aimed at strengthening the region’s manufacturing sector. Springfield, Ill. | June 25 2025 | Illinois Attorney General Raoul joins lawsuit challenging Trump’s termination of federal grants | Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced this week he has joined another multistate lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s decision to withhold billions of dollars in federal funds that had previously been approved for states and other grantees. The complaint, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, challenges several actions the administration has taken since Trump returned to office Jan. 20 that involved terminating federal grants that had previously been approved by various agencies.
Chicago, Ill. | June 25 2025 | Federal funding cuts impacting local resources for LGBTQ+ community: ‘A gut punch’ | The [ABC 7 Eyewitness New] I-Team found that so far this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has canceled 24 grants for Illinois institutions related to LGBTQ+ issues such as mental health, HIV and STI prevention, alcohol use and drug use. The grants originally totaled nearly $71.5 million, and now $16.4 million will go unpaid.

Washington, D.C. | June 3 2025 | City awards $20 million in grants to 28 neighborhood capital projects across Chicago | From a birthing center on the South Shore to a Chinatown commercial complex and a historic Woodlawn ballroom, 28 neighborhood development projects are receiving a total of $20 million in City funding to help bring new life to commercial corridors and community spaces, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced today. The grants, awarded through the Department of Planning and Development’s (DPD) Community Development Grant (CDG) and Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) programs, were selected from over 250 applicants. The projects, collectively valued at $58.5 million, aim to support neighborhood growth by covering eligible construction, renovation, and soft costs.
Washington, D.C. | June 2 2025 | Energy Department cuts federal grants for Kraft Heinz and Diageo’s Illinois projects | The U.S. Department of Energy cut funding for two dozen clean energy projects across the U.S., including a $170 million grant for Chicago-based food manufacturer Kraft Heinz at 10 U.S. plants, including one in Champaign. The cuts also include a $75 million grant for Diageo’s facilities in Plainfield and Shelbyville, Kentucky. The beverage giant’s brands include Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff. U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on Friday announced the cancellation of 24 grants worth more than $3.7 billion, which were awarded during President Joe Biden’s administration.
