Springfield, Ill. | October 13 2025 | $67 Million in Grants Announced to Expand No-Till and Strip-Till Practices across Illinois | The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) have announced $67 million in funding through the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program, aimed at expanding no-till and strip-till farming practices across the state. IDOA Director Jerry Costello II said, “No-till and strip-till practices improve soil health, reduce erosion and runoff, and lower long-term input costs. We appreciate the state and federal partnerships that bring grant funding to encourage conservation of Illinois’ fertile farmland.”

Applications open online at 8 a.m. on October 27th and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 31st. A pre-enrollment period begins this Wednesday, allowing users to enter and validate their information on the CPRG Program Application website. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by county, with a 3,000-acre cap per application. To qualify, applicants must commit to implementing no-till or strip-till practices for three consecutive years, beginning in fall 2025. Fields must comply with the USDA-NRCS Conservation Practice Standard 329, which prohibits full-width soil disturbance between crop harvests. Acres already enrolled in programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) or the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) are not eligible.

Washington, D.C. | October 21 2025 | Request for Information (RFI): Accelerating Speed to Power/Winning the Artificial Intelligence Race: Federal Action to Rapidly Expand Grid Capacity and Enable Electricity Demand Growth (DE-FOA-0003574) | The purpose of this RFI is to solicit feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, impacted communities and other stakeholders on issues related to gigawatt-scale generation and transmission investments driven by projected electricity demand growth from data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities, semiconductor fabrication plants, and other large energy users that are outpacing the capacity of the existing electric grid. Springfield, Ill. | October 10 2025 | Title IV – 21st Century Comm Learning Centers (21st CCLC) | The purpose of 21st CCLC programs…is to provide opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities in community learning centers that: 1. Provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services, to help students (particularly students who attend low-performing schools) to meet challenging state academic standards. 2. Springfield, Ill. | October 28 2025 | Birth to Five Illinois awards additional $2.5 million to strengthen early childhood collaborations | Birth to Five Illinois is continuing its investment in early childhood education by awarding an additional $2.5 million in funding for fiscal year 2026. This brings the total funding directed toward local Early Childhood Collaborations to $11.87 million since FY2023. The organization, funded by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), has now supported 35 of the state’s 39 regions, furthering its goal to improve early childhood systems and better serve young children and their families.

Springfield, Ill. | October 23 2025 | Illinois Housing Development Authority Invests $6 Million to Strengthen Housing Counseling and Grow Pathways to Sustainable Homeownership | The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) announced that 30 housing counseling agencies will receive $6 million in grant funding to expand financial education, pre-purchase homebuyer education, and foreclosure prevention counseling services for thousands of Illinois families…The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) created and funded the Housing Counseling Resource Program (HCRP) to expand capacity for housing counseling services to serve traditionally low- to moderate-income and underrepresented households. IHDA administers the program on behalf of the State of Illinois and, since launching in 2022, HCRP has assisted 37,000 Illinois households, including more than 3,500 first-time homebuyers successfully purchase a home.

Springfield, Ill. | October 20 2025 | Illinois law enforcement receives $11M grant to fight car theft | Illinois law enforcement agencies are set to receive over $11 million in grant funds to combat car theft, as announced by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. The grants will be distributed among six agencies, including the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Statewide Auto Theft Task Force, to help prevent carjackings across the state…The funding for these grants is sourced from car insurance companies, which contribute one dollar to the Secretary’s office for every car they insure in Illinois.

Chicago, Ill. | October 17 2025 | Chicago Housing Authority sues HUD over new anti-DEI grant requirements | The Chicago Housing Authority is suing President Donald Trump’s administration over new requirements targeting “diversity” that threaten at least 13% of the agency’s annual budget for now — and possibly millions more in the near future. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently began requiring its grant recipients to certify that none of the funds will be used for “diversity, equity and inclusion mandates, policies or programs,” or for programs and initiatives related to gender ideology, elective abortions and immigration.

Washington, D.C. | October 16 2025 | New grant expands care for unhoused in Illinois communities | The University of Illinois College of Medicine will receive a $2.5 million grant to train family medicine residents in street medicine, according to a community announcement. The funding, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will support the Primary Care Training and Enhancement-Residency Training in Street Medicine Project over five years. The initiative will focus on delivering care to unhoused and underserved populations in Rockford, rural northern Illinois and Chicago.

Springfield, Ill. | October 8 2025 | Nano Nuclear to receive $6.8 million award from Illinois | New York City–based advanced nuclear technology developer Nano Nuclear and the Office of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on Tuesday that Nano will receive $6.8 million in state funding to establish its new manufacturing and research and development facility in Illinois. The funding will come in the form of incentive awards from the Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) program. The facility will be further supported by $12 million in investments from Nano Nuclear itself.

Springfield, Ill. | October 6 2025 | $2M grant expands homeownership for Illinois working families | The Illinois Housing Development Authority has allocated $2 million to Habitat for Humanity of Illinois to help working families buy homes. The funding will be used for a new round of the Community Impact Fund, a program that provides down payment assistance to families. The program is expected to create 100 new homeowners across the state, according to a community announcement. The Community Impact Fund provides forgivable grants to help families qualify for traditional mortgages. Financing for the program comes from IHDA’s Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

Washington, D.C. | October 3 2025 | Trump admin freezes $2.1 billion for Chicago projects, blames Democrats for shutdown holdup | The Trump administration has put on hold $2.1 billion in Chicago infrastructure projects, Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought. Vought’s announcement comes on the heels of two other moves by the Trump administration during the federal government shutdown targeting funding in cities and states led by Democrats.

Washington, D.C. | October 1 2025 | White House to slash $8B in funding for blue states | The Trump administration is pulling billions of dollars in federal support for 16 states that did not vote for the president in 2024. White House budget director Russ Vought on Wednesday said the Trump administration will cancel almost $8 billion in federal funding for green projects, directly targeting 16 states that did not vote for President Donald Trump in the presidential election.
